European Union project

Between December 2011 and December 2013 I was the Key Expert in Epidemiology of the European Union Public Health Reform II Project, in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina. The role of the position was to strengthen the Early Warning System for Communicable Diseases and the capacities for International Health Regulations (IHR).

The deliverables included:
• Overall assessment of the management information system for the surveillance of communicable diseases in Bosnia and Herzegovina to set up an action plan to improve its efficiency;
• Retrospective analysis of the data on communicable diseases for the period 2008-11 to assess reliability problems, analyse trends and established threshold values for epidemics;
• Establish Standard Operating Procedures to strengthen the Surveillance System for communicable diseases;
• Assess the capacity to implement the International Health Regulations;
• Assist in planning a national population health surveys according to the European Health Interview Survey methodology.
